Guillaume Van Kersbulck has announced his retirement from cycling after failing to secure a contract for the 2024 season. After 13 seasons in the peloton, the 32-year-old has put an end to his career.
The Belgian turned pro with Quick Step in 2011 and spent six years with Patrick Lefevere's team. He then went on to play for Wanty Gobert, CCC, and Alpecin Phoenix, and spent the 2023 campaign with Vingor WB.
"My 13 years as a professional cyclist came to an end. 'It wasn't my choice, but I'm grateful for these years. I've had a great career, but it's still difficult because I wanted to race until I was at least 35.
"I am grateful for all the fans who have followed me and cheered me on, for all the opportunities and all the team and staff who have done for me, for the teamwork and everything we have experienced together. I end 2023 with mixed feelings, but I am confident for the future."
Van Kersbulck has six professional wins, including a tough edition of Le Samin in 2017. His best season with Quick Step came in 2014, when he won the overall title in the De Panne 3-day race, followed by a stage win in the Eneco Tour. His last victory came at the 2018 Antwerp Port Epic.
Van Kersbulck was contemplating retirement in the winter of 2020 when the CCC team disbanded, but ultimately decided to move to the Alpecin Phoenix training team in April 2021. He was then promoted to the Alpecin Phoenix professional team and moved to Bingo Al WB in early 2023.
