According to several Belgian reports, Eli Yzerbit spent the night in a hospital emergency room after suffering from dehydration due to a stomach ailment.
According to Wielerflits and Het Laatste Nieuws, the Pauwels Sausen Bingor rider entered the emergency room on January 1, was released on January 2, and is now recovering at home.
Yzerbito will be out of the race for a week. He did not complete the UCI cyclocross round in Hulst on December 30 and did not start the X2O Badkamers Trofee round in Baal on January 1.
He also missed the X20 Badkamers Trophy in Koksijde on January 4 and was expected to miss the Gurregem on January 6.
Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal has confirmed that Yzerbit will return to racing at the UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Zonhoven on January 7.
Yzerbitt has had a strong cyclocross season and is currently leading the UCI Cyclocross World Cup and Superprestige Series with consistent top performances.
However, he dropped down the order in the X2O Badkamers Trofee, and after missing the round in Baar, he is in second place, 1:38 behind Lars van der Haar (Baloise Trek Lions).
