Uno-X Mobility was the first team to announce a big signing on August 1, when the transfer market opened, and Magnus Kort will join the Scandinavian team in 2024 after four successful years with EF-Education EasyPost.
Cort has joined a team made up of Danes and Norwegians and has gained a lot of experience and won some big races. Last season in particular, he won two Tour de France and six Vuelta a España victories, plus one Giro d'Italia stage win and a Grand Tour stage win.
Uno-X made its debut at the 2023 Tour, where it impressed with nine top-10 finishes and two top-3 finishes with five riders.
However, Colt added a new dimension to his team and is looking for his first stage win at the Tour. Colt is more than aware of the expectations, as he has a track record of stage wins in Grand Tours.
"For me the potential is the same. Maybe it will be better. Regardless of how the wild cards are finally distributed, it will be a good race program for me," Colt told Ekstra Bladet. They have earned an automatic invitation to the 2024 World Tour One-Day Race thanks to their 21st place in the 2023 team standings.
"My dream is to win more races, and it has to be the World Tour.
"One of the biggest things would be to win a stage at the Tour de France. But if that doesn't happen, I wouldn't say it's a bad season. Then you have to look at what else happened."
[14The 30-year-old Colt has moved from the WorldTour to a professional team, but he sees himself playing a bigger role than he did while at EF, not only as a racing leader but also as a role model for the team's younger riders.
The Tour is not everything for the Scandinavian team, which is looking to continue to improve its pro team ranking and pursue World Tour status in 2026, when it will again be given 18 slots to compete.
Cote is a big name for Uno-X Mobility and should earn valuable UCI ranking points in 2024, along with Tobias Halland Johannessen, Alexander Kristoff, and Søren Werenskjold. The Norwegian team has also acquired a Scandinavian talent in Andreas Leknesund, who finished eighth in the Giro d'Italia and won the five-day Maria Rosa.
"From the management side, I'm going to play a bigger role, but I can feel it in the other riders," Colt said.
"The team I joined is a little bit smaller than my old team. And it's clear that a lot of the younger guys respect someone like me. I used to be one of the many, but now I stand out a little bit. I want to live up to those expectations."
Cote is one of the best escape operators in the pro peloton, often finding a way to win in situations that seem to be at the absolute limit.
He was not at his best in France in 2023, perhaps due to the brutal time he spent in the break in the Giro. On stage 10 in Viareggio, Derek Gee and Alessandro De Marchi led for most of the day.
"I think we learned a little bit. Maybe I should have stopped the Giro last year because there was a lot of bad weather and I was kind of semi-sick," Colt said
. Now we'll have a little more traditional regime."
