Happy Birthday in Heaven" - Remembering Gino Mader on his 27th birthday

Gino Mader's mother emotionally remembered her son on his 27th birthday.

Sandra Mader posted a photo of Gino on social media and added the words, "Happy Birthday in heaven."

She also wrote a longer message: "Happy birthday Gino. I hope you have a grand birthday celebration in heaven and laugh at my inability to make a birthday cake. I miss you so much. Love you forever. Mom."

The post prompted numerous messages in memory of Meder, who died after a high-speed crash in the 2023 Tour de Suisse.

"Much love and peace. I cannot imagine how much you miss him. His light still shines on this earth and continues to inspire us," NoukBikeMind wrote in X.

"Happy Birthday dear Gino. His fearless and elegant style when he was on his bike and his off bike charm and grace will be remembered by the entire cycling community. Strength to Sandra and the entire family," writes sallydjbarley.

Meader's death sparked an outpouring of support and affection for the popular Swiss rider.

A stage winner at the Giro d'Italia, Tour de Suisse, and Tour de Romandie, Mader was known not only for his cycling, but also for his fundraising efforts for the African re-greening charity Just Digit during the 2022 Vuelta a España race. He is also known for.

Sandra Mader has bravely confronted the tragic death of her son; in an interview with the German newspaper Südkurier in September, she said: "It was no one's fault. I think it was simply his fate that he died that day."

She also said that she was "not the only one.

She and her family established the "Ride for Gino" charity foundation to raise funds for causes that Mader was passionate about, such as environmental protection and combating climate change. Information about this foundation can be found on the RideForGino Instagram page.

The Bahrain Victorias team continued to mourn Mader after his death, and riders dedicated their victories to him. They continue to use the #rideforGino hashtag on their 2024 jerseys.
