"We gave him the green light" - Jumbo-Visma accepts Roglic's transfer request

Richard Plugge, manager of Jumbo-Visma, confirmed that he accepted Primošroglić's request to leave the team at the end of the season.

Before Saturday's Giro del Emilia begins, Logric revealed that he will leave the Jumbo Visma after the current campaign. Ineos and Bora-Hansgrohe are understood to be his most likely destinations.

Roglić has a contract with Jumbo-Visma until the end of 2024, and Plugge recently dismissed the idea that the Slovenians would move elsewhere and repeatedly described him as the "king" of the team."

Plugge reached the same explanation on Saturday, when Loric confirmed his imminent departure from the team, he won three times in the Vuelta a España, a spell that claimed the overall title at this year's Giro d'Italia.

"Primosh will always be in my heart as our King," Plug said in a statement released by Jumbo Visma. "I'm very grateful to him for finding the way to the top together. I always admire him on a personal level.

"But the best time will come to divide the way. Recently, he asked for a transfer. We understand his demands and we have too much respect for each other to stand in each other's way. We gave him the green light Just like Dylan Groenewegen

Like Roglić, Groenewegen left Jumbo-Visma by mutual agreement before the end of his contract and joined Jayco ahead of the 2022 season.

After winning this year's Giro, Logric missed the Tour de France, and Jumbo Visma preferred to entrust the sole leadership to Jonas Vingear, who successfully defended his title in Paris. The presence of Vingegaard clearly limits Roglić's prospects of regaining the leadership of the tour team at Jumbo-Visma, but the emergence of Vuelta a España winner Sepp Kuss as a GC candidate and the possibility of the arrival of Remco Evenepoel, who proposed a merger with Soudal-QuickStep, only increased internal competition.

Soudal-QuickStep Manager Patrick Lefevere told het Nieuwsblad this weekend that it would be "much clearer" about the possible merger by Monday. Rogic, meanwhile, hinted that he would not reveal his new team until the end of the season at Il Lombardy next weekend.

"I can confirm with certainty that I will leave the team, but I would like to tell you all the details after the race," Logric said at the start of the Giro del Emilia, winning ahead of compatriot Tadezi Poganyar.
