Almost five months after breaking his hip at the Giro d'Italia, Tao Geogegan Hart (Ineos Grenadiers) is nearing the end of his rehabilitation tunnel, and the British rider has revealed on social media that he can ride indoors.
Geoghegan Hart spent 9 weeks at a specialized sports rehabilitation center in fysiomed Amsterdam, the Netherlands, over the summer to quickly track his rehabilitation. He crashed on stage 11 of the Giro d'Italia and required surgery for a complex hip fracture, but soon devoted himself to rehabilitation and returned to the race in 2024.
"It has been a very busy few months of work. Almost every day at the gym and physio table," Geoghegan Hart said in an Instagram post.In an instagram post, he said: "And after all that work, I'm now very happy to be back in the saddle and (a little surprisingly) already feeling really good.
"I am grateful for having spent time with so many special people in the last few months in this daily grind of rehabilitation. Thanks to everyone in my circle for the support."
The winner of the 2020 Giro d'Italia will be one of their star GC riders who, after spending 7 years at the Ineos Grenadiers, will ride Lidl・Trek when they finally return to the race in 2024 and have the opportunity to be a leader on the grand tour.1
Geoghegan Hart had seen form at the Giro before his crash. He was 3rd overall and 2nd overall, just 5 seconds behind team-mate Geraint Thomas, while final race winner Primo Logric split 2 Britons.
イタリア語のウェブサイトに話すbici.pro Geoghegan Hart's agent João Correia detailed the reasons for his team's changes and the great ambition of the 3-year-old over the next 28 years of his career at Lidl-Trek.
"Behind this division is the ambition that every rider wants to try something new," Correia said. "It's good for athletes to have different stimuli.
"There was a meeting with Ineos in the summer, but everything was not clear, including the role that Tao has.
"He wants to be a great tour rider, but not a leader, but he saw it in Ineos because it is impossible in modern cycling.
Geoghegan Hart will be one of Lidl-Trek's 2024 leaders in the biggest races alongside Danish classic and grand Tour star Mad Pedersen, Giulio Siccone of this year's Tour de France and Tour de Switzerland winner Matthias Skjelmose.1
"Tao has 1 goal: The Tour de France," Correia said. "A race that he only raced once to support Karapas and Thomas in 2021.
"Now he has reached the age where I have to say I won the great Giro, now I want to aim for a high goal."
Correia runs Corso Sports Marketing with co-founder Ken Sommer, and among its clients are João Almeida, Geoghegan Hart and Pedersen.
"I have a great relationship with [Lidl-Trek General Manager] Luca Guercilena thanks to the fact that 1 of my riders, Mads Pedersen, is riding for them," Correia said
"So this opportunity to talk to him arises and it all happens very quickly." It was a great experience. Lidl-Trek was looking for a guy to rank on the grand Tour, but the opportunity was significant."
Geoghegan Hart is the ninth Riddle Trek announced for 2024 with Jonathan Milan, Patrick Conrad, Sam Omen, Carlos Verona, Fabio Felline, Ryan Gibbons, Simone Consoni and Andrea Bajoli. It is one of the signings of the festival.
