Wahoo Fitness announced that it will shut down the virtual cycling platform RGT by 2023/10/31.
In an email to subscribers seen by Cyclingnews, Wahoo announced that "through systm, it is a strategic decision that will focus on Wahoo's long-standing strengths regarding structured training content.""
The Atlanta-based brand's indoor cycling portfolio has evolved through a number of iterations in recent years. The brand produced hardware that included more suitable indoor cycling equipment such as GPS bike computers and smart trainers and cut its teeth. In 2019, it acquired Sufferfest, a popular indoor cycling training platform, which was later rebranded as SUF and rebranded as Wahoo SYSTM.
We purchased our competitor's virtual cycling app, RGT Cycling, in 2022, rebranded it as Wahoo RGT, and launched 2 simultaneous platforms, SYSTM and RGT, as a single subscription known as wahoo X.It retained the free version of rgt for many years and maintained the "freemium" offering of its products.
In a statement, the brand said that today's move "means that all of the energy, attention and innovation of Wahoo's talented software team will focus only on SYSTM, SYSTM Pla
in order to soften the news for current users, e-mail will be sent to SYSTM for non-paid users." It contains a code that allows for a 30-day trial.
Interestingly, Wahoo has also promised free membership to its rival indoor cycling app, Zwift.
"Wahoo has acquired a free, easy-to-exchange Zwift membership to provide customers with structured training with wahoo SYSTM and access to the world's largest virtual riding community with the Zwift app," the statement concluded.
This point indicates the continuation of the "new approach to collaboration" agreed between the two sides last month, when they resolved a year-long patent infringement lawsuit.
In this regard, Cyclingnews understands that subscribers who pay monthly will be issued a three-month Zwift subscription and those who pay annually will be issued a 12-month Zwift subscription.
It is unconfirmed whether the monthly subscription fee, which previously provided access to both RGT and SYSTM, will be reduced.
