The 2024 Tour de France will include a gravel stage at the end of the first week and the Peloton is working on an unrefined "white road" around the northeastern town of Trois, local media reports.
The gravel roads around Trois have already been featured in the first edition of the Tour de France Femme, which was revived in 2022 and won over Maren Roiser (SD Worx).
The inclusion of the gravel section on the Grand Tour stage has always caused intense debate, like the use of the Paris-Roubaix Pavé at the Tour de France, and the question is that their presence in the 2024 race is likely to be a point of active discussion over the coming months.
According to L'est éclair, Stage 7 of the 2024 tour on Sunday 7/9 is set to start and end in Trois, after using several sectors of off・road, the full public release of the 2024 Tour de France route is scheduled in Paris on 3/10/25 weeks later.
The latest stage featured on the Grand Tour is the 2022 Tour de France Femme Stage 4, which also featured a 12.4km gravel road, also in the Trois region, with an uphill non・surface finish at La Planche des Belle Filet in the men's race of the same year.
The gravel roads of Tuscany also formed part of the 2021 stage of the Giro d'Italia, the day when the GC tender for Lemco Ivenepoel was hit hard.
The opening and closing segment of the three-week course is the only part set in stone for now, at the Grand Department Store in Florence on 6 May 29 followed by two more stages in Italy, along with two last days based in Nice and its surroundings.
That said, rumors about a possible start and end are raging as the countdown to the big "public" at the Palais de Congres in Paris continues for more than 3 weeks.
On the same day, the route of the 2024 Tour de France Femme will also be announced, running from 8/12 to 8/18. Again, few details are known beyond the Grand Department Store in Rotterdam, Double Sector Stage 2, which will conduct a time trial in the afternoon in the same city, and a total of 3 stages in the Netherlands.
According to the expert website velowire, the first week of the race will have 2 stages in the Alps and probably a summit finish at Croix de Fer. This is followed by a team time trial that, according to other sources, could be back on Stage 7 in Dijon and Gravel stage in Trois.
Velowire also arrived in the city of Po, turning south through Massif Central in Week 2, probably in the central and eastern Pyrenees, St.Lary-Soulan/Pla D'adet, and the Plateau de Beille Stage 15 in a row have reported the possibility of working on two summit finishes.
After a rest day at Narbonne, the tour will head to Nimes along the Mediterranean coastline for a four-stage showdown in the Alps, possibly including the summit finish at Isola 2000 and the ascent of one of Europe's tallest Tarmac passes, the Labonnet Restefond. The race then culminated with an already confirmed finish on Stage 20 of the Col de la Quire and a time trial on Stage 21 of the 35 km of hilly terrain from Monaco to Nice.
