Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) warns Jumbo-Visma, Soudal Quick-Step, and other teams involved or affected by a merger or acquisition must comply with UCI's rules and regulations and respect existing agreements with riders and team staff.
In a succinctly written press release, the international governing body said compliance with the agreement is "of paramount importance to UCI.""
The UCI also warned that the WorldTour licenses for Jumbo-Visma and Soudal Quick-Step could be re-evaluated at any time."
They also revealed that team riders who have been taken over by another team since the 2024/10/19, when the UCI issued a press release of a list of teams that submitted the information necessary for registration, will only be released from the existing contract.
"This press release will open the possibility for riders belonging to a team not included in the list to join another team, without prior notice or payment of compensation, in accordance with the provisions contained in the Standard Agreement," UCI explained.
They noted that "Any material change in the team's situation must be formally reported during the upcoming registration process so that it can be assessed in accordance with uci rules.""
UCI has released the first list of teams that requested WorldTeam and ProTeam registrations on 10/19 and announced that they will make a final decision on 12/12.
UCI will also give 1 team World Tour status in 2024 and 17 teams in 2024 and 2025 if one team were not folded and registered or taken over in the 2024 season, as a result, the number of pro-tems automatically invited to the UCI WorldTour event will also increase.
