Remco Evenepoel reports that he may try to terminate his contract and move to Ineos Grenadiers or another key team in order to ensure he stays at Soudal-QuickStep, end speculation and increase his chances of success at the 2024 Tour de France.
Evenepoel, acting as his agent, and his father Patrick had raised concerns about the strength of Soudal-QuickStep for grand Tours and other teams to make an offer to entice him, despite a deal that would bind him to Soudal-QuickStep until 2026.
Evenepoel spoke with Jumbo-Visma, but the acquisition of Soudal-QuickStep was still a possibility, but when these plans ended on Friday, the young Belgian clarified his position.
He crashed during Il Lombardia, but fought the pain to finish the 9th time and spoke on the steps of his team bus. It was a great experience.
"The team is going on, so I will stay," he said, putting an end to speculation.
"There have been some difficult moments, but next year we will go for it," he added, adding that the Tour de France was the main target expected.
"We're going to build and run in the race when we need to. There is no reason to complain here. We are trying to make the most of it.
"Next week I will give it all to me again in Cronodé Country and I think I will have won the holiday. I've been riding at a high level for a year. It's time to make it a little easier.
Evenepoel ended up with a torn jersey and shorts, and a bandage on his left elbow covered in blood. When he stopped across the finish line, he was clearly in pain.
"My legs felt really good. I had a really good day. But the fall decided a lot...He explained.
"My knees, buttocks and back are all damaged. There was an open wound. At the end of the race, it began to affect me.
"But I have to be satisfied, I have tried my best and moved forward. In the future I will come back here to win it.
Probably in the Soudal-QuickStep jersey.
