Kasia Niewiadoma took victory in what was her first ever gravel race on Saturday at the uci Gravel World Championship. The Polish rider left the rest of the field behind, leading Silvia Persico and Demi Volarling with 33 seconds left to reach the finish.
The decision not to televised the Women's World Championship race attracted criticism in the days leading up to the race, but some short highlights were shown later.
Matej Moholic, Niebiadma as the winner of the men's race, won the UCI World Title riding a motorcycle that has not yet been announced. But this time it was a model of the Canyon, not Merida. We also saw this same prototype bike at Unbound earlier this year and Carolyn Schiff won the women's race.
As mentioned earlier, we still don't know what this Canyon bike is. After Unbound, I speculated that it could be an updated version of Canyon Grail. It's no exaggeration to say that it's not the new Inflite that got updated and Top flight CFR status in late May 9.
It appears that this new frame has a mounting point under the top tube and a seat post that is different from the one currently mounted on Canyon gravel bikes. The ergon saddle is mounted on the seat post.
Niewiadoma used an Sram-based build and used Zipp's wheels and load pedals hourly (Sram owns Zipp and Time). The time pedal is also generally some of the lightest on the market.
Wheels and Tires wise Niewiadoma used Zipp303S wheels fitted with tubeless Schwalbe G One RS tires with a smooth center section. Schwalbe claims that the G One RS tires have the lowest rolling resistance in the G One range and are suitable for tarmac and dry conditions. Niewiadoma will probably go for speed on top of excess grip and/or puncture resistance, but we've also discussed tire options with our Gravel world technology features if you want to read more, although it's certainly paying off for her.
A mixed Sram transmission was installed on the bike. A Quarq power meter with an Sram red 1x chain set and a small chain catcher has been fitted to the front. The rear derailleur and T700 10-52T T-type cassette were from the fairly new XX SL Eagle MTB range. The XX Eagle SL derailleur uses a hanger-less interface and carbon fiber cage to drop weight and uses a lower jockey wheel that won't clog or stick if debris gets in.
