Patxi Vila and Shane Archbold will be Bora-Hansgrohe and Sports Director

Bora-Hansgrohe followed up with confirmation of Primoz Roglić's signature and made the announcement that he had brought in 2 new sports directors, New Zealanders Shane Archbold and Basque Patxi Vila.

Archbold has been riding Bora-Hansgrohe for the last 2 seasons and is expected to retire at the end of the year.

The former Provira served as sports director for Tinkoff-Saxo and Bora before taking on the role of performance director for the Spanish world tour team Movistar between 2020 and the current season. The Basque is now returning to his previous position at Bora Hansgrohe. Movistar confirmed Vila's departure from the previous team X on Thursday, via Twitter earlier, but did not say who would replace him.

Archbold's new role as a former National champion, respected team worker and lead-out man is to take care of the team's young riders, the press release said. The 34-year-old is scheduled to complete his last season's race on a tour of Guangxi starting on Thursday before passing his wheels. In this way, I can pass on my experience and knowledge to the future of BORA-hansgrohe. I work with everyone to make the most of myself."Villa, 48, was equally keen to return to the team from 2017 to 2019, where he spent 3 years as sports director. "I feel like I'm back home. I'm excited about the 2024 season. Especially with the big moves of the team, we will be able to fight for the biggest victory in the world.

Rolf Aldag, the team's head of sports, said: "As a rider, Shane always had an opinion and he kept it. Shane is very professional and has a very deep insight into strategy. From DS's point of view, I am pleased that he is now taking the next step and giving young riders the opportunity to benefit from his experience!"Patxi brings with him a wealth of experience. He takes a very analytical approach to modern cycling and knows essentially all bike races like the back of his hand. The fact that he already works within the team and its structure is an additional advantage, just like Shane. It makes the start and comeback very easy.”
