After the Mayor of Nice confirmed that Stage 19 will end at the Isola 2000 Ski Station in the Southern Alps, another part of the 2024 Tour de France route was established.

Christian Estrosi, President of the Métropole Nice-Côte D'Azur region, which includes the Isola2000 ski resort, and Mayor of Nice, made the announcement via X (formerly Twitter) earlier this week.

Confirmation of the inclusion of Isola2000 means that the 2024 Tour de France finale will include a back-to-back summit finish in Stage 19 and then Stage 20 at la La Col de Couillole, before the medium-distance time trial from Monaco to Nice on the final day.

Stage 19 is expected to feature a route very similar to when the race held its only previous finish in 1993 at Isola 2000.

That year, Philippa York led Bonnet Restfond, one of the highest passes in Europe, before the race reached Isola 2000, 1. York was then captured by race leader Miguel Indurán and KoM leader Tony Rominger, who eventually won the stage despite attacking again on the last climb. The 16-kilometer-long, average gradient of 6.9% Isola 2000, as its name suggests, peaks at just over 2000 meters above sea level, eased for a long upper grind to the summit Also, the 2008 tour begins in Cuneo and ends in Jauzier, in the middle of the stage, and in 2016. It was also featured on the route of the Giro d'Italia stage.

In other news on potential tour routes, according to expert website Velowire, the first week of the race will feature two stages in the Alps, but the possibility of an early summit finish at Croix de Fer looks increasingly unlikely. But finishing in the alpine town of Valois could well be on the cards.

Other predicted highlights such as the time trial in Dijon and the stage including the gravel road near Trois at the end of the first week, the finish at Pla D'adet and Plateau de Beille in the Pyrenees during the second and the four stages in the Alps in the third week all remain possible.

The full publication of the Tour de France route in 2024 is less than 10 weeks in Paris on 25 May.
