Route presentation delayed as Giro Donne becomes Giro d'Italia women in 2024

The Giro d'Italia Don will officially become known as the Giro d'Italia Woman in 2024, and the new race organizer, RCS Sport, has decided to resume the race after years of decline and poor organization.

The Giro d'Italia women will officially begin on Friday with the full route presentation of the men's Giro d'Italia in 2024. However, Cyclingnews understands that the Giro d'Italia women's route presentation has been delayed for several weeks due to delayed changes in race route design.

Full details are expected by the end of the year and RCS Sport has already created an official website for the race.

RCS Sport took over the organization of the 2024 race after the Milan-based organizers emerged as the only candidate in the complex bidding process of the Italian Cycling Federation.

The Italian media conglomerate will take over from PMG Sport/Starlight, which ran the race from 2021 to 2023, to organize the Giro d'Italia women for 5 years.

RCS Sport incited a name change and revealed the grand new winner's trophy, perhaps without revealing the full race route, the other of the races on Friday

The women of the 2024 Giro d'Italia will be held from 7-7-14, changing the date and the men's Tour de France. The Tour de France women will move on May 8 after the Paris Olympics, although the Tour de France women will again overlap with the Paris Olympics.

Giro d'Italia women will run in 2023, following 9 days in the year and 10 days in the previous year, in 8 stages, reducing in length.

The arrival of RCS Sport is expected to stimulate improvements in general racing organization, even though full route details are not coming at the same time as this year's men's race.

Last year, details of the limited route were revealed only on May 5, and a last-minute solution was found to ensure live TV coverage.

Former race organizer Giuseppe Rivolta, who ran the Women's Giro for 18 years, has previously praised the decision to award organizational rights to rcs sport.

"Roberto Luini arrived in 2021 with a Starlight and was able to put together 2 beautiful editions. And from next year, with RCS Sport, the race will be in excellent hands," Rivolta said.

"They are best ready, the facts say so, I'm not the only one." Now I can relax because the Giro Donne can stand on my feet."
