It is not only the blocked roads around South Australia that will host the tour on May 1 this year, but the new gravel race, RADL GRVL, will be held.

The event is co-founded by professional cyclist Tiffany Cromwell (Canyon Slam), F1 driver Valtteri Bottas, organizers of the GRVL Event, SBT GRVL in Colorado, and Fnld GRVL in Finland. RADL GRVL will be held from 1/18 to 1/20, and the professional race, a pilot event involving 250 riders, will be set at 131.5 km and an elevation difference of 1,791 m on the 19th. There are 3 professional賞金10,000 AUD prize wallets that are split equally between men and women.

"I've been racing for years as a professional, and the dirt roads around my hometown of Adelaide are the reason I fell in love with gravel cycling," Cromwell said. "We look forward to bringing the Radl GRVL to McLaren Vale on our Santos tour on May 1 this year, introducing riders from all over Australia and making South Australia's riding, scenery and hospitality special," he said."

South Australia has an abundance of scenic gravel roads, from the winding roads of the Adelaide Hills to the sandy shorelines and long roads that cut through the forest.

After an informal shake-out ride on 1/19, the competition division of RADL GRVL will depart across the gravel roads of South Australian wine Country through the region of McLaren Vale on Friday.This is the final route that has not yet been confirmed for the first event. On Saturday, the post-race shakedown ride begins at Santos Tour Down Under Village and ends with a watch party at Willanga Hill in Stage 5 of Tour Down Under.

The new Gravel event has been placed on the calendar to accommodate women's World Tour and World Tour races. Santos Tour Down Under will be held in the region of Adelaide and South Australia from 2024-1-12-21 with a 9-day elite race for men and women.

RADL GRVL is the 2nd event the GRVL Event has partnered with Cromwell, a professional and regular gravel racer on the Women's World Tour, and her partner Bottas. In the 2022 SBT GRVL, Cromwell won the Women's division on the 100-mile Blue course and Bottas won the Age division on the 60-mile Red course.

Together they launched the FNLD GRVL in Lahti, Finland this year, providing a powerful venue that included unbound Gravel 200 women's winner Carolyn Schiff and second place men's rider Petr Vakoc. Cromwell won the women's race, while Trek Segafredo rider Toms Squins won the men's race.

"On May 6 last year, I had the opportunity at fnld GRVL to introduce the gravel cycling community to riding around my hometown of Lahti, Finland.

"I have enjoyed some very memorable gravel rides around Adelaide and McLaren Vale over the past few years, so the opportunity is in the area"

RADL GRVL organisers have added another gravel racing option for the top gravel competitors, as well as the South Australian race in May. For recreational riders flocking to the state

Gravel racing is gaining momentum in Australia. It has grown from a small local grassroots event for decades and now includes 2 UCI Gravel World Series rounds, a National Gravel Championship that has been held since 2018, plus countless events including a gravel version of the Warrnambool Road Race from Melbourne. The UCI Gravel World Championships will also be held in Nanap, Western Australia in 2026.

The only top-class tour in the country has long focused not only on horseback riding, but also on watching races, numerous opportunities for recreational riders departing from the event village every year, parking climbs and Willanga Hill time trials among this year's options, and new gravel events.
