Primos Roglic will travel to the Solden Ski Resort in Austria this week with his new Bora Hansgrohe teammate to start a new chapter in his career and plan his attack on the 2024 Tour de France.
Logric spoke at length about his life at the Festival Dello Sport in Italy over the weekend and the success of the Giro d'ETALIA in 2023. Then he spoke more specifically to cyclingnews and La Gazzetta dello Sport about his move from Jumbo Bismar to Bora Hansgrohe and his ambitions for 2024.
"I like new challenges and have different things. Sometimes something new is better, but you don't know until you do it," Logrich said, choosing his words carefully.
"I'm leaving the best team of the year, so I don't think I'm going to be an even better team. We will see what the future will bring.
Roglić has already made it clear that he began to think about moving away from Jumbo-Visma at the beginning of 2023. The victory at the Giro d'Italia left the Tour de France missing from Palmares, but with Jonas Vingegaard winning twice at the Jumbo Visma, Rogic had to change his team if he wanted to target the Tour de France in the final years of his career. I realized that I would not be able to do it.
When Jumbo-Visma began working on a merger/acquisition of Soudal-QuickStep during the following summer, Remco Evenepoel was expected to be the team leader and Jumbo-Visma decided to leave Roglić.
Around the same time, a leadership rivalry emerged within the Vuelta a España team, and Roglić explained that his responsibility as team leader was to win the race. He said in Torrent that he could have attacked to overturn the result, but was happy that Sepp Kus eventually won.
Bora-Hansgrohe Team Manager Ralph Denk realized at Vuelta a España that Roglić was no longer satisfied with Jumbo-Visma and worked hard to secure roglić's services.
Ineos Grenadier and Lidl-Trek were also named as possible destinations, but Bora-Hansgrohe quickly emerged as the best option for Roglić. The German team carefully used the saved budget to fund the contract, and Jumbo-Visma received the reported three million euros to terminate Roglić's existing contract. He will reportedly earn in 2024 and 2025 550 million euros per season in Bora-Hansgrohe.
"In the end it got very fast," Roglić explained of his move to Bora-Hansgrohe.
"Of course, a lot of teams were interested, but there were probably not many teams that could actually do it. When we started talking to Bora-Hansgrohe, things went really fast and we found common good things really fast.
"There was enthusiasm for what I was looking for. That was enough for me.
Roglich admitted that after a long season in 2023, in Trent, he still can't go on holiday and relax.
In Solden, he will sit with team management and his coach Marc Lambert, who will also move across from Jumbo Bismar and plan his attack on the 2024 season and the Tour de France.
Roglić will also spend time with his new teammates and fellow team leaders Jai Hindley, Cianuijt Debroeks, Aleksandr Vlasov, and the new signing Dani Martínez. Hindley and Uijtdebroeks could lead the German team at the 2024 Giro d'Italia, and Bora-Hansgrohe is expected to select a strong team to back Roglić at the Tour de France.
Logric knows that Tadeji Pogagnard beat him in the final time trial at the 2020 Tour de France, but finished in 2021 and 2022 due to crashes and injuries
he may take some time to challenge the Tour de France. He is likely to be his biggest rivals at the Grand Boucle in 2024 but it remains his ultimate goal.
"We've seen a lot of different teams and a lot of different teams can compete to get the best results," Roglić said.
"We all know that things don't happen overnight. When I started using Jumbo-Visma in 2016, we needed quite a bit of time to get to the level we needed to be the best. let's see...。 "
Rogliú does not hit the table and demands the leadership of the team at Bora・Hansgrohe for the Tour de France, it is not his style.
But he deserves it and he will certainly be given special status in the team for the Tour de France and other stage races because his results prove he can win. In 2023, he won the Tirreno Adriatico, Volta Cyclista a Catalunya, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Burgos, making him the 3rd overall winner in the Vuelta a España and perhaps the strongest rider in the race.
"I wish some freedom in the race. We all say tour of course, and I want to go to the Tour de France with the best support. I want to win the race," Rogic revealed.
"You can say I'm picky, but I really want to give it all for some particular thing." No matter what happens, you do not want to regret, if you do not try, you will never know.”
