EF Education - EasyPost wins young riders and signs Luis Costa to mentor

EF Education-EasyPost confirmed that it was signed by former World champion Louis Costa in 2024.Team manager Jonathan Vaughters describes the Portuguese rider as an important mentor to many young riders joining the team.

The 37-year-old Costa ran the Intermarche Circus Wanti in 2023, won the first race of the year at Challenge Mallorca and recently won the last race in Japan. He also won Stage 15 of the Vuelta a EspaƱa and Volta a la Comunitat Valencia Stage Races and returned from a domestic role for several years with UAE Team Emirates.

Richard Carapaz, Alberto Bettiol, Ben Healy and Neilson Powless will lead EF Education-EasyPost again in 2024.

The US-registered World Tour team also signed 18-year-old Markel Beloki, 19-year-old Lukas Nerurkar and Jack Rootkin-Gray from the UK, Darren Rafferty and Archie Ryan from Ireland and Jardi Christiaan van der Lee from the Netherlands.

"Everyone, including me, can grow up with young riders. I am growing every year, learning despite my age. I like to help, but I also like to learn and improve," Costa said.

"I've already been a pro for about 17 years, and I'm still as excited now as I was 15 years ago when cycling was everything to me.

"The goal is to keep adding, to keep winning. To start this season with a win and finish with a win, it brings me extra motivation for next year. I want to keep going in the same direction. That is my purpose.

The team's boss, Jonathan Waters, identified Costa's role in the team and said the veteran could "almost translate a win into a win."

"Riders like Louis, who have been racing on the world Tour for years, know how to win," Vaughters said.

"In addition, he knows how to convert a near-win into a win. His experience will be a powerful asset for this team. With a handful of riders making their debut on next year's world Tour, Louis will be an irreplaceable mentor to them.

In addition to Costa and the other riders on the incoming list, the team renewed with Ben Healy until the end of the 2026 season. Magnus Colt (Uno-X) and retired Jens Keuchel have so far been confirmed to leave EF this winter.
