Lidl-Trek has completed a roster of new development teams for the next 2024 season and has formed a team of 14 riders aboard US rider Cole Kessler.
The WorldTour team has participated in top-level programs such as Groupama-FDJ, Team dsm-firmenich, Lotto-Dstny, EF Education-EasyPost, and will run a continental development team next year, with such teams developing and promoting their own talents.
Kessler is 10 of 14 riders from 1 country on the new Lidl-Trek devo team. 20-year-old he switched from the Israeli Premier Tech Academy team after 2 seasons.
The Californians will be joined by the Danish trio Christian Eholm, Patrick Bozier Frisiker and Martin Pedersen, as well as the German trio Niklas Behrens, Louis Reidert and Tim Torn Toitenberg. Click.
Cameron Rogers (Australia), Axandre Van Petegem (Belgium), Nils Aebersold (Switzerland), Liam O'Brien (Ireland), Mats Wenzel (Luxembourg), Matteo Milan (Italy) and Jakob Söderqvist (Sweden) completed the team and became the former Trek champion. Led by racer Markel Irizar.
"Honestly, I really look forward to starting this program," Irizar said. "It will be very interesting to have our own project. It will be a long-term project, so you can really plan for the future of this team.
"If you look at our roster, you have a faster guy and a classic-style rider. We may miss a bit on the long climb, but I think it's very good on sprints and cobblestones. The most important thing for me is to be able to show the spirit of the team, starting with a good image."
Team directeur sportif Sebastian Andersen – son of WorldTour team DS Kim Andersen – said he was excited to start using different talents and personalities in his new team.
"I am very happy, completely over the moon, and I am proud and honored to be invited to this group of amazing people," he said. "My father, Kim, is already the director of Lidl-Trek, so I know the team very well.
"We know we're a great team and we're really looking forward to being part of it. After spending a few days at Trek's headquarters in Waterloo, I've been blown away by how wonderful the company is;the values and the culture, and you can feel that it is also a close organization that runs well.
"Every new team has to start somewhere, but in the group of riders that Markel has gathered, I'm really excited because there's really good talent and good personality out there. I think I can have a really good year with young people."
The team is already planning for the future season, with the addition of Hector Alvarez (Spain) and Andrea Besega (Italy) in 2025.
