Oscar Rodriguez is scheduled to ride for the Ineos Grenadier in 2024 after signing a 3・year contract with the team. The Spaniard joined from Movistar, where he spent the past 2 seasons.
Rodriguez is only the 8th new signature to be confirmed by the Ineos Grenadier in 2024 after the Neo-Professional AJ2 May.
Ineos also announced contract extensions for Geraint Thomas and Carlos Rodríguez earlier this week, but so far only 2024 riders have been publicly confirmed on the roster for 20 years. Ben Tourette, Tao Geogegan Hart, Pavel Shivakov and Dani Martinez all left the Ineos Grenadier and chose a rival team for 2024.
Oscar Rodriguez, from Bullada, turned professional with Euscadi Murías in 2017 and he inspired early on when he won the 2018 Vuelta a España at the top of La Camperona. After that, he became the 2019 Vuelta a Burgos No. 2 overall and advanced to the World Tour with Astana in 2020.
Last year's overall 2nd place in the Tour de Hongli was the highest point of Rodriguez's 2・year stint at Movistar. His 2023 season was interrupted by a crash that forced him to abandon the Giro d'Italia in Stage 11.
The 28・year・old joins Ineos to ride in support of Thomas, Carlos Rodriguez and Egan Bernal in the high mountains.
"It has always been my dream to be part of this team, one of the best teams in the world, and it's a very special feeling," Rodriguez said on Thursday
"I want to provide the most support to the team because the mountains are my natural habitat. It will be a real honor to ride with guys like Egan and Geraint, who won the Tour de France. I look forward to learning from both of them and using their knowledge to improve myself as a rider.”
