Human Powered Health adds "Pure Climber" Dobel Hickock in 2024

Krista Doebel-Hickok will return to Human Powered Health after spending 2 years at EF Education-TIBCO-SVB in 2024. The move is another sign that the U.S.-based team is continuing to build a roster and continue at the Women's World Tour level.1

The California native completed 2 seasons in the top tier with EF Education, but was looking for a deal when the team announced it would fold at the end of this season's race. It should be a smooth transition as she achieved significant results as a GC leader in the HPH program from 2019 to 2021 and was then called rally cycling.

"Thanks to such incredible teamwork, I have achieved so many great results in the team. My victory at the Redlands, the Oak Glen stage, is a memory of my most favorite race at the time. The end of the summit in my home state was completely completely empty and collapsed that may have gone deeper than I've ever done," she recalled.

Entering the 2022 World Tour level, Dobel Hickock won the overall and mountain classification on the tour of the Pyrenees, took 4th place in the Vuelta a Burgos GC and completed the Giro d'Italia Don and Tour de France Femme. In the U.S., he won two stages on Tour of the Gira, took 2nd place overall and won the mountain division.

She started last year's Santos Tour Down Under campaign at No. 5 overall and then achieved consistent results at the tour cyclist Feminine International Doraldesch, putting Monrozère at No. 5 on stage and No.12 on the GC.

Next season will be Doebel-Hickok's 11th as a professional cyclist, but it wasn't her career path on the radar when she finished studying and spending time with the track team in Vanderbilt University's cross-country. By 2015, she was racing bikes in Europe and won stage victories at the Tour de Feminine and the Tour Cyclist Feminine International de Lardèche.

"When I joined rally cycling in 2019, I was coming off one of the most challenging seasons ever, but 2019 was, without a doubt, a breakout season for me," he said of the US team, Cyrance Pro Cycling, who raced for 3 years. The 34-year-old told me that his license was suspended.

"This year presents challenges similar to 2018, so it's motivating to know that Human Powered Health believes in me and has what I need to rebound," she said.

"I want to be an integral part of a team with influence far beyond myself. We want to encourage people to change for the better, and we believe that with Human Powered Health we can share the struggles and joys that come with that process.

Doebel-Hickok brings not only climbing skills to HPH, but also important experience for team tactics and GC targets in stage races.

"There are not many pure climbers in the bunch, and she is one of them. She will be valuable in the mountains, helping Ruth [Edwards] and Barbara [Marcotti] or seeking their own results," said Performance manager Kenny Ratom.

The Human Powered Health women's team recently signed former World champion Giorgia Bronzini as the new directeur sportif. They renewed the contract for French champion Audrey Cordon-Lago, had retired two seasons ago and managed to restart on the road Gravel
