Suzanne Andersen was one of the stars of the Uno-X women's team established before the 2022 season, but missed the Tour de France Femme after breaking her collarbone in last year's national championship. A year later, she finally made her Tour debut wearing the Norwegian champion's jersey she won in late June.
"I am very proud of this jersey. It's a really beautiful design and every time I wear it I remember a very good moment. I broke my collarbone at the All-Japan last year and couldn't compete, so it feels like I've come full circle," Andersen said. It's like coming full circle," Andersen told Cycling News before the first stage.
The team will change tactics depending on the profile of the stage, aiming to make the race every day without regard to overall standings.
"We have Anouska Koster, who can challenge for GC, but that is not our main goal. We are going to challenge stages every day and the way to get the best possible result will be different for each stage. If it makes sense, I would like to be in the breakaway group. At the moment I feel I am in very good shape and after a good training period things are finally coming together. Winning the national championships gives me good confidence before starting a big race like the Tour," Andersen said of his strategy for the race.
On the same day as the first stage of the Tour de France women's race, the Tour de France men will finish on the Champs-Elysees in Paris. The Uno-X men's team had a sprint battle with Alexander Kristoff and achieved 10 top-10 finishes, especially by putting riders in the breakaway. Tobias Johannessen finished third in Cotele-Cambasque on stage 6, and Jonas Abrahamsen was part of a breakaway group that kept the sprinters at bay on stage 18, also finishing third. These performances provided additional motivation for Andersen and his teammates.
"It gave me a lot of energy. My boyfriend Torstein Traen is racing in this race and he was very unlucky. He broke his elbow in the first stage, but he is still in the race. And the whole team proved that what we are doing is good enough for the Tour. I feel that the women's team is riding better and better. I hope we can ride as well as the men's team," said the Norwegian champion.
