Kerbaert defends Tour de France Femme white jersey in headwindy second stage

Sératigit-WNT Procycling first-year rider Cédrine Kervol made her debut in the Tour de France femme, the 22-year-old Breton rider winning the best young rider's white jersey on the first stage and extending her lead in the U23 class on the second day. He wasted no time in showing off his skills.

After Monday's hilly stage, Kervaor wore the white jersey for the second day in a row, this time with a 1:21 lead over second-place finisher Ella Willey (Lifeplus Wahoo) and a little more firmly on her shoulders.

"It's always good to be a little bit closer to the other U23 riders, but you never know what can happen. But you never know what's going to happen, so I'm going to keep it going as long as I can," Kervaar told Cycling News after the stage.

"On paper it was a really hard stage, but the headwind in the first 100km changed everything as we didn't get full gas on the climbs as we expected. It was the final climb that made the difference."

"The last climb was the difference.

On the final climb, the Côte de Trebiac, Kerbaol led the elite group and was one of the attackers just 1km from the start of the climb to the finish. Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM), Juliette Laboux (Team dsm-Filmenig), and Marlen Reusser (SD Works) launched attacks, but no one could create a gap before the summit. Demi Vollaring tried to lead SD Works teammate and race leader Lotte Kopecky to victory, but Liane Lippert (Movistar) came from behind to take the stage win.

Kervaor's aggressive riding has earned her top three finishes in the young rider class in several races this year, including a top finish at the Tour de Normandie Féminine in March. The race will conclude with a finish time trial in Pau, and she was eager to wear the national colors as the new French ITT champion. She said, "If I wear the white jersey on the last day, I won't be able to wear the Tricolore skinsuit. But I definitely want to wear the white jersey, and there will be other opportunities to wear the Champion skinsuit," Kervaor clarified her priorities. Kerbaol recently launched his own YouTube channel to produce and publish short videos of his racing life. Interestingly for a French rider, the videos are in English. My boyfriend is English and most of my friends and people I talk to are English. I started this channel because I wanted to show what it means to be a professional cyclist from the inside. I got a GoPro camera for my birthday, so I decided to do something with it," the 22-year-old explained.

Four years ago, Kerbaol was crowned national junior road race champion.
