The final test of the 2023 Tour de France Femme awaits. The 22.6km time trial, which starts and finishes in Pau, is the last chance to swap GC positions and the last chance to score a valuable stage victory. After aggressive racing on the Aspin and Tourmalet passes, Demi Vollering (SD Works) has a 1:50 lead over second place Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) and a 2:28 lead over Annemiek van Hulten (Movistar). Last year's winner is always a big threat in the time trial, but given the size of the gap, chasing Vollering in the overall standings may be an uphill battle. However, he will certainly start with a firm eye on Nienyadoma's time as well as the stage win. Still, the two-time world champion in this discipline has more than GC rivals to contend with for the stage win. With a small climb in the middle of the course and a nearly flat course that continues uphill to the finish, many riders and teams will be looking for one last chance.
Jumbo Visma will be looking for its first Tour win, with two favourites, British time trial champion Anna Henderson and Dutch champion Liejeanne Marx. The Dutch rider in particular has been a regular on the time trial podium in the last two seasons and had to beat both Voerling and Van Breuten to win the national title.
French team FDJ-Suez will be looking to Grace Brown for the win, and the Australian World Championship silver medalist had a big target in mind for this stage from the start. Also in the mix is Vollering's teammate Marlen Reusser, who may have been influenced by her pursuit of Niwiadma on stage 7. Van Vleuten's teammate and stage 6 winner Emma Norsgaard could also be in the mix.
Of the 124 riders remaining in the race, the first to start will be Human Powered Health's Lantern Rouge, Marjolein Vante Guelouf, who will leave the start gate at 2:38 PM CEST.
