Arnaud Demare has moved to Arkea Samsic after reaching an agreement to terminate his contract with Groupama-FDJ. The Frenchman has signed a contract that will keep him at Arkea Samsic until the end of 2025.
"I signed a contract with Arkea for the seasons 2024 and 2025, but by mutual agreement I could terminate my contract with Grupama and FDJ in order to join Arkea Samsic after the 2023 season starting August 1 and compete in this structure," Demare said Tuesday morning, He unveiled the new red and black colors on social media.
"I want to thank my two partners for releasing me from my contract for the last few months. It's the best thing that could have happened to me to be able to turn the page so quickly and look to the future. I am really looking forward to the end of the season with the Arkea Samsic team."
DeMare's departure from Groupama-FDJ was confirmed when he was left off the Tour de France team. DeMare had expressed disappointment last winter when Groupama-FDJ did not renew the contracts of mainstays Jacopo Guarnieri and Ramon Sinkeldam.
"He has won two stages of the Tour de France, eight stages of the Giro d'Italia, three titles in France, and has won the Paris-Tour twice before.
"I'm opening a new chapter in my career with a team that believes in me and motivates me," Demare said.
"I want to achieve good results. Emmanuel Hubert was enthusiastic and motivating. I want to wear my new colors and make a successful debut as soon as possible. I am highly motivated."
Prior to this, on August 1, Arkea Samsic allowed Andrej Ponomar to break his contract to move to an unnamed Italian team, creating a space for Demare on the 2023 roster.
