A GoFundMe fund set up to honor the memory of talented US Junior rider Magnus White has quickly reached over $110,000 as friends, fellow cyclists, and those shocked by his tragic death remember the 17-year-old from Boulder, Colorado.
Magnus White died Saturday after being hit by a driver during his final training ride for the UCI Glasgow Road World Championships, where he was scheduled to compete in mountain bike events.
White was a multi-discipline cyclist who won the Junior Cyclocross National Championships in 2021. He competed in Europe with USA Cycling's cyclocross national team and impressed with his results and attitude at the 2022 World Cyclocross Championships in Fayetteville and the 2023 World Cyclocross Championships in Hogelheide.
Christine Lipson (Lapins), the mother of Magnus' teammate, created the GoFundMe page with permission from the White family.
"Magnus was taken from us when he was riding his bike, the thing he loved most. Magnus' family is strong, but support from their community will go a long way to give them time to grieve," she wrote on the GoFundMe page.
"He started cycling at the age of eight and quickly worked his way up through the cycling ranks. Magnus' journey in cycling was driven by tireless effort and a deep desire to achieve personal bests. He was proud to represent his region and country in races around the world.
"Magnus leaves behind his parents, Jill and Michael, his brother Eero, and countless friends around the world. The family will utilize donations as needed to help him get through this tragic time and to honor his legacy."
More than 1,100 donations have been received to date, offering emotional messages of condolence in memory of Magnus White.
