EF Pro Cycling has taken a further step toward launching a new women's team, appointing the experienced Esra Trump as the team's general manager.
The team will be owned and operated by EF Procycling. Meanwhile, EF Education's previous foray into the women's peloton came via Linda Jackson's already established Tibco-SVB, which became the primary title sponsor of the EF Education-Tibco-SVB team at the start of the 2022 season. The team will continue to operate under its current title until the end of 2023, although two legacy partners, Tibco and SVB, have already announced that they will not renew their sponsorship at the end of the season.
The new women's team of EF Pro Cycling Management, home of the men's WorldTour team EF Education-Easy Post, will be named EF Education-Cannondale and will start at the UCI women's continental level in 2024.
"Of course there is the challenge of building this team from scratch. Of course there is the challenge of building this team from scratch. I love that," Tromp said in a statement.
"The main goal for next year is to stand out in the races and to build cohesion between the riders and the staff. And, of course, to win races, because I think this team has the potential to be one of the best teams in the world after 2024, without a doubt. It is a team that can win in all situations, in all types of races, be it the Tour de France, the Giro, or the Tour of Flanders.
The 32-year-old, who spent eight years as a professional athlete, already has a degree in business economics and six years of experience as a team manager, and a proven track record in setting up women's programs. She started and developed the Jumbo Visma women's team, led by Marianne Voss.
"This is an exciting new chapter in EF Pro Cycling's history and we are excited to welcome Esra Trump," said Maria Norman, President of EF Pro Cycling
"She has a proven track record in the Women's World Tour, has already proven she has what it takes to build the best team in the world from the ground up. Esra shares the same commitment to build a team that will not only win races, but also empower more women and girls to ride. We can't wait to get started."
