The Abu Dhabi World Championships will be the third to be held in Asia, following Utsunomiya in 1990 and Doha in 2016; the exact dates for the 2028 World Championships are not yet known, but the 2016 event in Qatar was postponed until October to avoid extremes of temperature.
Thus, the World Championships will be held on three different continents over the next five years. Next year the championships will be held in Zurich, Switzerland, and in 2025 the first African road world championships will be held in Kigali, Rwanda.
In 2026, the event will be held in Canada, with Montreal as the host city; in 2027, the race will return to France for the first time in 27 years, in Haute-Savoie.
Abu Dhabi will host the Road World Championships in 2028, and has also been confirmed as the host of the Track World Championships in 2029. [The UCI Congress also selected Arrah, Saudi Arabia to host the 2028 Gravel World Championships. Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, will host the Urban Cycling World Championships in 2025 and 2026.
The second Gravel World Championships will be held in Veneto in October, with Flanders Brabant (2024), Nice (2025), Nanap (2026), and Haute-Savoie (2027) hosting events before Alura.
The 2023 Road World Championships will be held next week in Glasgow as part of the multi-discipline World Championships created by the UCI.
