Movistar announced that Annemiek van Vleuten will be looking to win the Tour de France Femme Avec Zwift again. Emma Norsgaard, Liane Lippert, Ode Biernik, Florche Mackay, Paula PatiƱo, and Shayla Gutierrez complete Movistar's seven-rider lineup for the women's Grand Boucle, which begins Sunday in Clermont-Ferrand.
Van Vleuten, who will retire at the end of 2023, dominates the hardest stage race in women's cycling and recently won the Giro Donne, leading the race from start to finish.
In 2022, van Vleuten bounced back from an early illness to win the Tour de France women's yellow jersey. Last year, Demi Vollering was not strong enough to challenge Van Vleuten, but that could change dramatically this year after SD Walks had a dominant spring.
The second Tour de France Femme has a few hilly stages early on and a chance for sprinters before the grand finale in the Pyrenees. The Col d'Espin and Col du Tourmalet will be climbed in stage 7, and the final overall winner will be decided after a 22 km time trial around the Pau.
The women's Movistar team will race in the white "iceberg" colors used by the men's team in the Tour de France, despite the expected heat. Sebastien Unzue will serve as team director, with Jorge Sanz and Jurgen Laurents as sporting directors.
Since winning the Giro Donne, Van Vleuten has been climbing the Passo dello Stelvio and other high mountains in Italy in an attempt to recover at altitude for the Tour de France Fam.
Cycling News will provide complete coverage of the 2023 Tour de France Femme, with reports on each stage by women's editor Kirsten Frattini and Cycling News' Women's World Tour correspondent Lucas Knofler, pius news, interviews and more.
