To celebrate the team's entry into the Women's Tour, Hunt created a special edition aerodynamic carbon disc wheelset with custom graphics. The graphics show the start and finish points for each of the race's eight stages, as well as the length of the stages, on the carbon fiber rims of the wheels.
The new set of wheels will be available with the team at the start of the Tour de France femme on July 23.
Ten sets of wheels used during the race and personally signed by the team will also be available for purchase after the Tour ends in Pau on July 30. According to Hunt, all proceeds from the sale of these special wheels will go back to the team to fund further rider development and racing. [Elisa Longo Borghini of Riddle Trek and retirees Kirsten Wilde and Lisa Brennauer have raced with this team in the past. The team also recently signed former MTB Olympic champion Jenny Risbeds.
The team lacked a wheel sponsor for several seasons until Hunt stepped in at the beginning of 2022. Hunt's partnership revitalized the team's racing, thanks to its ultra-wide, aerodynamic wheels with an outer diameter of 29 mm, an inner diameter of 20 mm, and a depth of 44 mm.
Karl Lima, Team Manager of Team COOP-Hitec Products, said, "The invitation to this year's Tour de France Femme was a big plus for the team. It is a testament to our progress over the past two seasons and a reward for narrowly missing out on an invitation for 2022. We want to show that invitation/entry is not the goal, but success in the race is our main goal. There is no doubt that having Hunt Wheels as a sponsor last year was the missing piece of the puzzle for us. Their dedication, service, and quality have amazed our team. We have gone two or three seasons without a proper wheel sponsor and it has been like playing soccer in slippers in the Premier League, and the huge change in our results from 2021 to 2022 speaks for itself. I have been extremely grateful to Hunt Wheels so far!" she said.
Despite the dimensions of the rims, the wheelset weighs only 1446 g, thanks to a patented construction technique that bonds a low-density polymer inside a structural carbon matrix. The Team Edition wheels are equipped with CeramicSpeed low-friction ceramic bearings and have 7.5-degree engagement freehubs.
The wheels use stainless steel Pillar XTRA triple-butted aero spokes. Toray T700/T800 carbon fiber is used for the rims.
Those interested in getting their hands on the special edition Team Edition Hunt 44 Aerodynamist carbon disc wheelset can purchase it on the Hunt website, priced at £1249, $1549, and €1549.
