UK-based distributor FLI Distribution is to cease trading with immediate effect. The news was posted by Cycling Industry News. Based in Huddersfield, FLi has a 15-year history as a UK distributor and retailer of KTM bikes, looking after the dealer network in the UK.
FLi and KTM ended their 10-year partnership in April of this year. The news was covered by BikeBiz at the time; KTM is an Austrian-based brand that produces a range of bikes, and its road bikes are used by B&B Hotels p/b KTM
in top-level racing.
"It's already been publicized. I didn't know when or what to say, so I really didn't say anything. There are a lot of emotions swirling around
"But this is the end of FLi."
The statement thanked his colleagues, then focused on Brexit and said, "If you voted for Brexit, please realize that this is 90% due to your decision in 2016 " he stated.
While the impact of the COVID era may seem to be fading into the distance, the situation for UK brands and distributors remains grim. Long-established UK retailer Planet X was on the brink of bankruptcy in early June. This news followed the late March bankruptcy of another long-established UK distributor, Moore Large. More recently, Dutch eBike brand VanMoof declared bankruptcy in late 2021 despite having received over £100 million in investments, and two receivers were appointed.
