Two-time Tour champion Tadej Pogachar and his UAE Team Emirates team, which had refused to appear in the first episode of the Netflix documentary series "Tour de France Unchained," will now appear in the second season.
Early in this year's Tour, the team had ruled out appearing in the next season based on the ongoing race. However, they, along with Mark Cavendish (Astana Kazakstan), signed a deal with series producer Quadbox to appear.
Early in the Tour, Cyclingnews revealed that Cavendish's team had agreed to participate in Series 2.
Pogachar and UAE Team Emirates also made an appearance, and a video released on the team's social media featured interviews and camera footage from the team car.
Pogachar and his team were indirectly featured in season one through race footage and were set to do so again, but early in the race Quadbox did not deny their participation in the next season, scheduled for release in summer 2024.
The agreement between the teams and the producer was signed by eight teams that were active in season 1 (Jumbo-Visma, EF Education-Easy Post, Soudal-Quick Step, Ineos Grenadier, Groupama-FDJ, Alpecin-Desseuninck, Beulah-. Hansgrohe, AG2R Citroën) are understood to be separate from the main contract that encompasses.
All eight teams have announced their participation in Season 2, but according to Cyclingnews, Lidl-Trek and Jayco Alura were eager to join before the same eight teams from Season 1.
Netflix offered 8 million euros for the production of the series. The eight participating teams split €500,000, with each team receiving €62,000 ($67,000), and Tour de France organizer ASO and host broadcaster France Télévisions each receiving €250,000.
