According to Lazer, the new Cerro KinetiCore helmet is suitable for both road and gravel riding. It comes with a small visor designed to protect you from everything from the sun to mud and rain.
Some of the best gravel bike helmets have gravel-specific designs, but most riders use road bike helmets. In addition to the visor, Lazer has included several features to make the Cerro KinetiCore suitable for gravel bike use.
First, an eyewear docking station is included, and the Cerro KinetiCore closes with a magnetic buckle for easy attachment and removal. There is also a small visor and a bug net to keep wasps and their friends out of your hair.
KinetiCore is Lazer's solution for improving the protection offered by helmets, especially for rotational impacts, which helmet manufacturers now commonly address by using MIPS.
While MIPS adds an inner layer to the helmet, KinetiCore builds a crumple zone into the helmet shell. Upon impact, it can deform and absorb some of the impact energy, but upon a more severe impact, it breaks away from the rest of the shell.
In independent helmet impact protection tests conducted by Virginia Tech's Helmet Research Institute, MIPS has been overwhelmingly strong. This is primarily due to the proliferation of helmets incorporating MIPS by various manufacturers.
The Virginia Tech helmet safety rankings are littered with Lazer KinetiCore helmets, all of which have received the highest ranking of 5* or 4*.
Another advantage of the KinetiCore cited by Lazer is that it uses less material in the helmet, making it lighter, improving ventilation, and using less raw materials.
The Lazer Cerro KinetiCore helmet weighs 270 g. It is available in three sizes (S/M/L) and six colors, priced at $99.99/99.99 EUR.
