Campagnolo issued a statement last week regarding Open Cycles' recent ride stoppage notice for Campagnolo Eker-equipped gravel bikes.
because the [open 'multi-stop' cable entry frame ports could damage the rear brake hoses and lead to rear brake failure. [Campagnolo hydraulic brake hoses, due to their construction, are more susceptible to damage than other brake hoses. Therefore, they could be damaged by multiple stops."
He stated.
Following the announcement of the recall, Cycling News reached out to Campagnolo for comment.
"Open Cycle AG has initiated a voluntary recall of certain models of bicycles and frames equipped with Campagnolo hydraulic brake hoses. Campagnolo urges everyone to strictly follow the instructions provided by Open Cycle in the recall notice."
"To be clear, however, the recall notice suggests that this is due to some defect in the Campagnolo hose. This point is inaccurate. Campagnolo hoses meet and exceed the requirements of all applicable standards, are not defective in any way, and are not the cause of this recall.
"The cause of the recall is directly related to the 'multi-stop' inserts used in the recalled frames. These inserts are too narrow and have bent the Campagnolo hoses beyond the limits specified in section 4.3 of Campagnolo's instruction manual.
"The responsibility of the "multi-stop" inserts for this recall has been confirmed by a corrective action plan. Campagnolo did not design, manufacture, sell, or designate this insert.
In fact, Open Cycle is providing redesigned multi-stops and replacement Campagnolo brake hoses free of charge to all users affected by the recall.
Users who believe they are affected by the recall should contact Open or submit a recall form on the Open website to arrange for free repairs.
