AG2R Citroen wears denim pants at Strade Bianche

The Strade Bianche is a unique race that has quickly gained a cult following among cycling fans. The world will once again be watching the peloton on Saturday as they ride the iconic roads of Tuscany.

Members of Team AG2R Citroën, including Greg Van Avamae, have been spotted training on the white gravel roads and it appears they have changed kit.

At first, the team's cycling shorts may appear a bit dusty, as is often the case in races on the fabled white gravel roads. A closer look, however, reveals that the team is wearing denim cycling shorts made especially for the occasion by Italian cycling wear partner Rosti.

Cycling Weekly magazine (opens in new tab) reported that Rosti presented real denim (that's right) cycling shorts at Ruler Live late last year. It's a move that evokes memories of the Carrera team and its denim shorts of the late 80s, worn by Marco Pantani.

Today, gravel bib shorts often feature cargo pockets on the thighs, but it is difficult to tell from the photos whether the denim thigh pockets on the new shorts are simply sewn on or if they are real.

The digital ink has just dried on the World Tour Team Kit Guide, which ranks all of this year's men's and women's team kits. This year, we took it a step further and asked tech writer Will Jones' mother to judge each team on their style choices. Of the usually brown bib shorts, she had this to say.

Will's mother said. Besides, no one else wears brown, it's consistent, and I know exactly who sponsors it.

Naturally, we asked the authority on the matter for his opinion on the updated shorts.

Will's mother says: Oh dear! That's pretty offensive. Oh no. Why did you put the pockets on the side? If they were jeans, they would be on the back."

The World Tour bubble can be very serious at times. We say it's good to see teams mix it up and have some fun with their cycling kit.
