One year after the tragic death of Moriah Wilson, the cycling community is invited to honor her legacy and spirit at the Ride for Mo (opens in new tab) in Vermont on May 13.
"This is not a race, but a day to join Moriah's spirit on the roads and trails she grew up on and loved," a statement on the Moriah Wilson Foundation website reads."
"This event unites our community with an appreciation for life and inspires one another to face the tough climbs together.
In addition to this commemorative ride, the Moriah Wilson Foundation is partnering with Kingdom Kids, a local nonprofit community program dedicated to bettering the children of Northeast Kingdom, Vermont. [Kingdom Kids seeks to establish a vehicle for personal discovery, opportunities for self-esteem building, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and new opportunities through participation in non-motorized outdoor recreational activities.
These activities include, but are not limited to, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, downhill and cross-country mountain biking, etc.
Wilson, who was killed in a shooting in Austin, Texas on May 11, 2022, was one of the fastest rising stars in gravel racing. She made a lasting impact on the cycling world not only for her strength in mountain biking and gravel racing, but also for her friendly and approachable personality.
Organized by Wilson's parents and brother Matt Wilson, Ride for Mo invites gravel cyclists and mountain bikers to Lindon, Vermont, to ride local roads and trails in the area where she grew up. The event will also offer virtual rides on the Wahoo RGT platform.
"We want our local community and the greater cycling community that is feeling the effects of this tragedy to have a day, an event, and time to come together and support each other. To remember and honor Moriah and what she meant to each of us," Matt Wilson told Velonews (opens in new tab).
Registration for Ride for Mo will open on February 24 at 10 a.m. EST (opens in new tab). All registrations include food and beverage tickets, live music, swag from The Feed and Ridge Supply, a well-maintained gravel course with aid stations, or an optional guided ride by Kingdom Cycling & Experiences Trails day pass included.
