Marianne Vos will miss the defense of her cyclocross world title. Her trade team, Jumbo-Visma, has confirmed that she will be physically unable to participate in the UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Hoogerheide, the Netherlands, from February 3-5.

Boss has been experiencing what Jumbo-Visma calls "physical problems" due to a narrowing of her pelvic artery, which has prevented her from competing at her best in cyclocross this season.

"I am very sorry for this situation," Vos said in a team statement. 'We would have liked to see him in a different form, but treatment and recovery are our top priorities in order to start the road season without any complaints. Of course, we hope that the rainbow jersey will stay with the team next year and that it will fall on Femme van Empel's shoulders."

Vos won his 13th career elite world title at last year's Cyclocross World Championships in Fayetteville, including two in the track race, three in the road race, and eight in cyclocross.

Vos ended her 2020 cyclocross season early due to a nodule in her groin artery. She underwent successful surgery to correct the problem and spent six weeks recovering before preparing for the 2021 road season.

Vos competed in 10 cyclocross events this season, with her best result being her victory at the X2O Trofee Kortrijk - Urban Cross in November. In the World Cup series, she finished 6th in Maasmechelen, 5th in Beekse Bergen, 12th in Zonhoven, and 14th in Benidorm.

Jumbo Wisma's teammate and compatriot Femme van Empel, just 20 years old, won the World Cup series in seven races in Waterloo, Fayetteville, Tabor, Maasmechelen, Antwerpen, Dublin, and Benidorm. Dutch riders Puck Pieterse (Alpecin-Desseunink) and Shirin van Unrooy (Baloise Trek Lions) each won three races on the World Cup circuit, Pieterse in Overijse, Hulst and Val di Sole, and Unrooy in won in Beekse Bergen, Gavere and Zonhoven.
