BMC today announced the launch of its new electric all-road bike, the Roadmachine 01 AMP X. This new e-bike is a premium gravel and/or road bike with some great technology that provides an extra boost to riders who need the power assist that e-bikes bring.
The e-bike features BMC's Tuned Compliance Concept Endurance Technology, centered around a carbon fiber frame and fork.
Total weight is 12.9 kg with 38 mm tire clearance, and the bike also features fender mounts for full-length mudguards, a suspension stem, integrated lights, and an ultralight electric drive system.
On that note, BMC chose to equip the Roadmachine 01 AMP X with the same TQ motor system used on the new Trek Domane + SLR. Specifically, the bike is equipped with the HPR50 drive system, a small unit that is neatly integrated into the frame. The entire TQ system weighs in at 3.9 kg.
The global version provides assistance up to 25 km/h (15 mph), while the U.S. version provides assistance up to 28 mph (45 km/h).
As is becoming more common with electric bikes these days, the system's 360wh battery can be piggybacked to illuminate an integrated rear light mounted on the seat post, eliminating the need to charge the light separately. On the front of the bike, there is an integrated computer and front light mount, as well as a minimalist handlebar remote control for switching motor settings.
In terms of specs, the Roadmachine 01 X AMP is, as expected, on the high side. The top-of-the-line X AMP ONE model features a Sram Force XPLR groupset and Rotor Vegast chainset arms paired with Sram X-Sync 44t 1x chainset rings and a 10-44 cassette. The PF86 bottom bracket is standard, and the disc rotors are larger than usual, 180 mm front and rear, to accommodate the increased weight.
The wheels are BMC's own brand CRD 400 SL carbon, 40mm deep, fitted with Pirelli Cinturato gravel tires in 35mm size, but can be fitted up to 38mm for more off-road traction if needed.
Interestingly--and indicative of the bike's intended use--it is equipped with an ICS MTT x Redshift suspension stem. This was developed by BMC in conjunction with the Redshift team and provides up to 20mm of travel to absorb small shocks and dampen vibration while providing stealthy internal routing. Damping can be adjusted with easily replaceable elastomer blocks. The stem is fitted with a BMC Rab 02 compact handlebar.
In addition to the top-of-the-line AMP X ONE, there is a similarly named AMP X TWO. This model is a lime painted version, built on the same frame module and TQ powerplant, but with the Sram Rival XPLR groupset instead. The wheels are alloy BMC XRD 522 and are tubeless compatible.
The top model, the 01 AMP X ONE, comes in six sizes, 47-61 cm, in ice blue and black. It is priced at 8499 euros / 8899 US dollars / 8999 Swiss francs.
The 01 AMP X TWO is the same size and comes in bright lime yellow and black colorways. This model is priced at €7499 / US$7899 / CHF 7999. International pricing has not yet been determined. Both models are available for immediate order.
