The second season of the UCI Track Champions League kicks off Saturday in Mallorca. Seventy-two of the world's best track riders will race in the men's and women's sprint and endurance categories.
Each category will feature 18 riders, with points awarded in five rounds. High-speed racing and a spectacular light show create a modern format that showcases truck racing at its best.
Rider data such as power, speed, heart rate, and cadence will be displayed on a dedicated app, which will also stream live video from on-board cameras. Fans can also press the "Feel Heartbeat" button, which allows them to feel any athlete's heartbeat live at their fingertips using the smartphone's vibration function.
Each category has two types of races in which competitors can accumulate points: sprinters compete in both sprint and keirin, while endurance riders compete in both elimination and scratch. [Sprint events consist of sprint and keirin, while endurance events consist of elimination and scratch. Rankings will be based on points earned in each race, not on time.
Riders will race wearing the new and unique racing colors made by Santini, which combine the rider's nationality and flag, and are completely different from the usual national jersey. At the end of each round, the current leader will be awarded the UCI Track Champions League blue leader's jersey to be worn in the next round.
