YT Industries Introduces Szepter, a "Gravity-Oriented" Gravel Bike

Gravity-focused mountain bike brand YT Industries today unveiled the Szepter, the brand's first gravel bike.

The Szepter is designed as an all-around gravel bike, but is influenced by the brand's core gravity influence, which is most clearly reflected in the component selection and bike specifications.

YT claims that Szepter is built to be fast on all types of terrain, injecting extra fun into gravel and off-road riding, on-road commuting, and everything in between. Szepter is a bike that is designed for road riders and mountain bikers alike, designed to bridge the gap between riding in all conditions year-round.

We had the opportunity to spend some time with the bike prior to its launch, and we're excited to share our thoughts with you.

YT used SRAM's XPLR AXS groupset on both Szepter models, along with an array of gravel-specific components from SRAM. Gravel-specific suspension, which did not exist a few years ago, is also offered in the form of RockShox's Rudy gravel-specific suspension fork and RockShox's Reverb AXS XPLR dropper post.

Szepter's frame is made of ultramodulus carbon fiber, weighs 1400 g in size L, and is classified as ASTM Level 3: "Rough trails, unpaved rough roads, rough terrain and ungroomed trails requiring technical skills," and up to 61 cm, meaning that it is suitable for jumps of up to 61 cm.

Head tube angle is 69.4 degrees (69.3 degrees on the small), with a 40mm travel, 50mm offset RockShox Rudy suspension fork. Seat tube angle is 74.3 degrees. Dropping seatstays are also a feature of the frame design.

The Core 3 and Core 4 will be available in two specifications. These bikes share the gear ratios of the SRAM XPLR AXS, each with a 38-tooth chainring on the crankset and a 10-44t cassette in the back. Crank arm length depends on model size, with 170mm crank arms on the smaller bikes, 172.5mm on the medium to large sizes, and 175mm on the XL-XXL.

YT incorporated practical features into the Szepter design, such as integrated front and rear fenders to keep dirt and mud out. The RockShox Rudy forks can be fitted with mudguards, but YT designed its own.

There are also four rivets on the underside of the top tube and mounting points for bottles on the seat tube and downtube. Riders can choose between two mounting positions: using a generic bottle cage or a YT-specific Fidlock baseplate and Thurstmaster combination (opens with a new tab).

Tires for both models are 42mm diameter WTB Resolute TCS, with a 60 TPI model on the Core 3 and an upgraded 120 TPI on the top model Core 4. The maximum tire clearance for the Setopar is 45 mm.

The Rudi suspension fork can also be fitted with 180 mm diameter front disc rotors for enhanced off-road stopping power. If a more compact setup is needed, the 160mm size can be fitted.

Both the Szepter Core 3 and Core 4 models use the same frame and geometry, but the Core 3 includes a RockShox Rudy XPLR fork with 40mm travel, SRAM Rival XPLR eTap AXS groupset, Zipp Service course finishing kit, SDG saddle, and WTB Speedterra i23 wheelset. Core Three is available in Assault Green, a matte finish.

The Core Three is priced at $3299/£3199/€3299.

The top-of-the-line Core Four is upgraded to a RockShox Judy Ultimate XPLR fork that benefits from Charger Racing Day dampers and is also 40mm travel. SRAM Reverb AXS XPLR dropper seatpost, SRAM Force XPLR eTap AXS groupset, Zipp service course SL bar and stem, SDG saddle, WTB Proterra Light wheelset. Coat 4 is matte color "Machine Light Gray."

Cool 4 is priced at $4499/£4399/€4499.
