Simon Yates will return to racing in Italy with Coppa Agostoni after a month's rest after contracting COVID-19 at the Vuelta a España.

BikeExchange-Jayco has announced that Yates will be racing in northern Italy, starting with Thursday's Category 1.1 race, followed by Saturday's Giro dell' Emilia, and next Tuesday, October 2, Tre Valle Varesine, three mountain He announced that he will participate in three one-day events in Italy. Yates will also compete in Il Lombardia on October 8.

Yates was sidelined for the second time in a Grand Tour after contracting COVID-19 on stage 11 of the Vuelta a España. The virus also led to his abandonment of the 2020 Giro d'Italia.

According to a team press release on Wednesday, Yates "has since recovered and is motivated to achieve results in races that suit his characteristics."

"With multiple races in Italy in quick succession, the Australian teams will be shuffling their team lineups with key players in each race.

"In Hiller, Yates will be the leader, with climbers Kevin Colleoni, Damian Howson, and Lucas Hamilton supporting him.

All of these races will serve as appetizers for the October 8 showdown at Il Lombardia. Yates has very little racing experience in Italy's fall events, but he will be very good at the very hilly finale, which includes the Civiglio and San Fermo della Battaglia climbs on the finish circuit in Como.
