British road race champion Ben Swift will compete in next month's Tour of Britain as part of the six-man Team Ineos.
Swift won the mountains jersey at the race in 2007 as a stager for the now-defunct Pro Continental team Barloworld. He has finished the race nine times, with his best finish being eighth overall in 2016, when he was a member of Team Sky.
In 2017, Swift left the team and spent two seasons resting with UAE Team Emirates, but returned to Sky in 2019, winning the national championships in Norwich in June, shortly after the team was renamed Team Ineos.
"I love the Tour of Britain and can't wait to hit the home roads with the national band," Swift said in a Tour of Britain press release. 'It's something I've dreamed about since I started my career.
"It's going to be a special week and we want to do something special on the road. I will bring a strong team to the start in Glasgow.
Race director Mick Bennett added: "We are honored to have the British road racing champions competing in this year's race. 'I have enjoyed watching Ben's career since his debut at the Tour of Britain in 2006, and we are delighted to have him on board.'The rest of Team Ineos' team for the Tour of Britain will be announced next week. The eight-day stage race will start in Glasgow on September 7 and finish in Manchester on September 14.
