Owain Doull has signed a two-year contract extension with Team Ineos that will allow the Welshman to accompany the British rider on the World Tour until at least the end of 2021, the team announced.
The 26-year-old is currently riding his first Grand Tour in the Vuelta a España, winning a stage at the Herald St. Tour in February and finishing second to Dečuninck-Quick Step's Bob Jungels at the Kuhne Brussels Kuhne the following month, making the 2019 The season has been a success.
Doull joined Team Sky in 2017 from UCI Continental team Team Wiggins and said he feels he continues to grow as a rider with Team Ineos.
"My first year with the team was up and down, my second year was better, and this year has honestly exceeded my expectations," Doull said in a press release. Starting my first Grand Tour is something I've wanted to do since I joined the team."
"'Progress' is probably the key word for me. I want to be on the best team in the world and keep learning from the best."
Doull added that he hopes that progress will continue next season and that he can play a similar role for the team while also taking it to a new level.
"In 2020, the team will focus on the classics, just like last year, and then switch to a support role in the big stage races. Luke Rowe [Ineos' teammate] has done a great job in this role over the years, and I'm sure he'll be able to do the same in 2020.
"We hope to build on our success in the opening weekend of this year's Classics and carry that into the Tour de Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.
"Here at the Vuelta, I spoke with many of the riders and staff. The Vuelta is good preparation for the off-season and I hope that next season we will start at a higher level and that our progress will show on the Classics stage," Duru said.
Team Ineos coach Connor Taylor added that Durr's consistency this season has been key to his development.
"Owain has been very consistent this year, starting with his first professional win in Australia and continuing through the Classics, including a podium finish in Coone.
"He has been an important support rider in several stage races, resulting in his selection for his first Grand Tour. Owain is a very versatile rider and a true teammate on the road, and we expect him to eventually develop into an important road captain for us."
"Owain has many personal goals for next season, especially in the cobbled classics. I feel he is in the perfect environment to maximize his potential and achieve his ambitions in the sport," Taylor said.
