Wahoo today launched KICKR BIKE, the top of its indoor trainer product line, KICKR BIKE is a premium standalone indoor cycling setup that integrates the Wahoo KICKR ecosystem.
"Over the past five years, we have seen an incredible increase in indoor cycling and KICKR indoor smart trainer sales. During this time, we have built the most complete ecosystem of connected indoor cycling products," says Mike Saturnia, CEO of Wahoo Fitness.
"The KICKR BIKE represents Wahoo's next generation of indoor smart training, offering the most complete and unmatched riding experience in its class; the KICKR BIKE is the ultimate product for the discerning, data-driven athlete.
In mysterious and typically Wahoo fashion, the Wahoo stand at Eurobike 2019 displayed only boxes labeled "Top Secret" prior to the big announcement on Wednesday at 10am CET. After a short presentation, the boxes were all removed to show off the new KICKR BIKE setup.
The KICKR BIKE uses the maintenance-free Gates Carbon Drive, combines the ride feel of the KICKR trainer with the gradient simulation of the KICKR CLIMB, adds brakes (yes, brakes), and features tuned shifting capabilities. Thanks to the high-precision motor, each shift is transmitted to the pedals with a realistic tactile feel.
Setup is ready right out of the box, and the Wahoo app provides a step-by-step walk-through and even an augmented reality bike fit process. Users can take pictures of their bike, enter their own measurements, and upload them from professional fit systems such as Retul and Guru. This outputs measurements that are manually applied to the bike's five adjustment points.Connectivity for the KICKR BIKE as well as other KICKR devices has been upgraded to allow up to three simultaneous Bluetooth connections. [Gear ratios can be adjusted to any chainring and cassette configuration, and shift buttons can be changed to Shimano, SRAM, or Campagnolo. There is a multi-function button on the top of the hood, which for the time being only controls gradient simulation, but will eventually be programmed to allow easy access to features such as in-app navigation and Zwift PowerUps.
The crank arms come in five lengths for easy fit adjustment, and industry size standards make it easy to fit your own pedals, handlebars, and saddle. The maximum output is claimed to be 2200w, which is more than enough.
At $3500.00 (TBC pounds), the KICKR BIKE is certainly at the premium end of the market, but Wahoo was careful not to exclude users with complexity.
"The KICKR BIKE represents the highest standard of indoor smart bike performance and is feature rich," says Jose Mendez, Wahoo's director of product management.
"However, we took great care to ensure that the product is simple and intuitive to set up and operate. We learned that it is not enough to build a product with lots of great features. We knew that the KICKR BIKE had to be as easy to use as possible so that athletes could focus on their training and not on troubleshooting."
"We wanted to make the KICKR BIKE as easy to use as possible so that athletes could focus on training and not on troubleshooting.
