EF Education First announced Thursday that it has signed Swiss talent Stefan Bissegger to a three-year contract beginning August 2020.Bissegger, 20, is aiming to represent his country in the men's team pursuit at the Tokyo Olympics before making his World Tour debut ...
"For the Olympics, I have signed a contract that will start on August 1," Bissegger said in a team press release. 'We are committed to Team Pursuit on the track for the Olympics. The qualifying period is after the track World Championships until next March and the team is allowing me to focus on that."
[4Bissegger began road racing at age 10 and continued to run in the junior category until he turned 19 last year; as a 19-and-under athlete, he combines road and track racing, "I've been racing for a few years now, and I'm really excited about it.
"From there I've developed in both disciplines. I love both, but to make it to the Olympics you have to give it your all." Switzerland has a good team. Switzerland has a good team.
In order to qualify for the Olympics, Bissegger will need to focus on the World Cup and Track World Championships, which run from November through January, and the World Championships in March. After the Olympics, he will focus on the road.
On the road, Bissegger won a stage at the Tour de Lavenir and won the opening stage at the Tour de Ain in May.
"One of our directors, Andreas Kreier, pointed him out," EF Education First CEO Jonathan Vaughters said in a team press release. 'We watched his stage win at the Tour de l'Ain on YouTube.'
"He is a big talent and capable of great results at the U23 World Championships. He is young and has a high ceiling for what he can accomplish."
Bissegger said he hopes to develop his strengths with EF Education First, as he is a partner of EF Education First.
"I did an apprenticeship as a bicycle mechanic. 'I worked in a store that dealt with Cannondale. Peter Sagan was a big hero of mine, he was on the Cannondale team.
"I also like the color pink. I'm happy to wear this color right off the bat."
