Dimension Data has announced the signing of versatile Spaniard Carlos Barbero. He joins a team rebranding to Team NTT next season after spending three years with Movistar.

Barbero has won nine races since stepping up to Movistar in 2017 from Caja Rural Seguros RGA. The 28-year-old Palmares includes two stages each in the Spanish stage races Vuelta a Castilla y León, Vuelta a Burgos, and Vuelta a Madrid.

In 2017, Barbero won Volta ao Alentejo and Circuito de Getxo, and this season he won the Tour of Austria alone, finished third at the Vuelta a Madrid, and finished in the top 10 at the Cune Brussel-Cune.

"I'm very happy and excited to be a part of this team, having spent my entire career on Spanish teams," Barbero said in a team press release. Barbero said in the team's press release: "I am very happy and excited to be a part of this team. I think my riding style fits well with the team. [My ambition is to be consistent throughout the year, to focus on the Classics calendar, but above all to make sure the team is happy with my work at the end of the year."

In addition to bringing strength to the Classics, Barbero's sprints are expected to bring more wins to the team, which sits at the bottom of the 2019 WorldTour team wins list.

"I will bring stage wins to the team when I get the chance, and I will also help my colleagues achieve victories. The important thing is for the team to win more stages."

Barbero will be new to Team NTT next season, along with Belgian time triallist Victor Campenaerts and Italian neo-pro players Samuele Battistella and Matteo Sobrero. Mark Renshaw and Lars Bak will retire and many players, including Mark Cavendish, are expected to move on to new paths as the team regroups for 2020.
