Leah Kirchmann (Sunweb) was forced to abruptly end her season after tearing her MCL in a crash at the Boels Ladies Tour.
The Canadian time trial champion will take six weeks to recover and will miss her goal of competing in the time trial and road race at the UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire.
"Sad to report that my 2019 season is over after crashing hard on the first stage of the Boels Ladies Tour," Kirchmann posted on Twitter.
"I completed the stage, but afterwards I felt something wrong with my knee. Tests showed damage to my MCL and I need at least 6 weeks of recovery."
Kirchman also said that he was "very sad to report that I finished the season.
Kirchmann is having a great season with the Sunweb team. She won the national championships and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Gatineau time trial, and has podium finishes at Omloop van Het Hageland, OVO Energy Women's Tour, Postnord-Valgarda West Sweden TTT, and Ladies Tour of Norway. She has also won the
"At last year's Innsbruck World Championships, she finished fourth in the time trial.
"The bike felt strong and I was looking forward to challenging myself in the last races of the season, especially the World Championships in Yorkshire," Kirchmann wrote.
As the season comes to a close, Kirchman is focusing on rehabbing his knee and looking ahead to next season.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to race with the team this season," Kirchman wrote.
