Women-only race at the Colorado Classic returns in 2020

Organizers of the Colorado Classic have announced that they will bring back the women-only race in 2020. In addition, title sponsor VF Corporation has re-signed on as the presenting sponsor of the race, which will be held August 27-30. [Lucy Diaz, COO of RPM Events Group, organizer of the Colorado Classic, said, "We wanted to create a race that broke the mold for women's professional cycling.

"The riders loved the event, the fans rallied, the host city offered great support, people tuned in to streaming that was broadcast around the world, and new and returning sponsors were thrilled with the event. We're looking to build on this year's momentum and turn our attention to planning for the 2020 Games." We have a great foundation and are excited to explore new elements and opportunities with key stakeholders."

Organizers announced last year that they would cancel the men's race to strengthen the corresponding women's event. They promised to use the funds to build a women's race, offering harder stages, more prize money, and live streaming. This year's women-only format saw the peloton run Steamboat Springs, Avon, Golden, and Denver.

The event drew more than 30,000 fans, who lined the roads and mountainsides to watch the races. According to race organizers, hundreds of thousands watched the race live from start to finish each day on the race's owned global streaming and television network.

Total prize money for the race was $75,000, with an additional $25,000 crowdsourced to riders and local non-profit organizations through the Bonus Cash Wrap "Prime" program. In Avon, Prime alone raised $10,000.

The competition boasted the strongest field to date, with top teams and racers from around the world as well as talented American riders. Chloe Dygert Owen (Shoair Twenty20) won four stages, taking the overall win, points, mountains, and young rider awards.

"The energy, spirit, and sense of community surrounding this year's race was exhilarating, and we are proud to have played a role in the pursuit of a new home, active lifestyle, and women's empowerment movement," said VF Corp. Chief Human Resource Officer and Public Relations Officer Anita Graham said.

"We look forward to supporting the Colorado Classic again next year and helping to honor the amazing female athletes who inspire others with their drive, hard work, and achievements."
