Mathieu Van der Pol (Corendon-Circus) rode away from his rivals to extend his lead with a dominant victory at this year's Tour of Britain. [Philippa York and Daniel Benson's Cycling News team debated whether the young Dutchman could win the rainbow jersey at the UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire later this month.

Along with author and journalist William Fortelingham, the team reflects on the stage and whether Van der Pol played his cards too soon before the world championships.

Fotheringham offers his expert opinion based on his experience riding this year's World Cup course, and York dismisses the notion that riding on home roads is an advantage. The two then talk about the similarities between the Yorkshire course and the course run in Oslo in 1993.
