Dylan Van Baarle has signed a new three-year contract with Team Ineos, which will keep the 27-year-old Dutchman on the British world tour until at least the end of 2022.
Van Baarle joined then-Team Sky at the start of the 2018 season after a four-year stint with Cannondale Drapac (now EF Education First). In his first year with Sky, he won the Dutch time trial championships, and this season he won the overall at the season-opening Herald Suntour in Australia, followed by a stage win at the Criterium du Dauphiné in June, when Sky transitioned to Team Ineos.
The latter victory ensured his selection in the eight-man team for the Tour de France, and Vanbert helped Egan Bernal win the overall.
"I am very happy to sign a new contract with the team," Van Baar said on the Team Ineos website. Three years gives me confidence, and it means that the team has confidence in me too."
"This year was a dream come true with Egan winning the Tour. He said, "My goal was to join this team and be a part of the Tour, and hopefully win it. With Geraint Thomas, we finished first and second, so it's been a really great three weeks.
"Going into the Tour, I wanted to stay with the guys as long as possible on the climbs. And I'm very happy with that," van Baar said.
He also felt that he had improved especially in the last few seasons since joining the team, pointing out one moment in particular where he felt things had really changed.
"The real switch came when I went to the high altitude camp last May," he said. 'I learned a lot at that camp. Since then I feel like I've gotten better on the bike. I trained hard and ate well. It really changed my career.
Looking to the future, he said he hopes to continue improving at the One-Day Classic and be a contender for the win, as well as be able to ride for the team in the three-week race.
"I want to be on the podium in the big classics. I want to be important in the Grand Tours. That's where I see myself in the next three years."
Team coach Tim Kerrison added that van Baar's versatility as a rider and his potential ensured that the Dutch rider would stay with the team for the long term.
"Dylan has been a great addition to our team. Over the past two years, his strong work ethic has made him one of the most versatile riders in the peloton, a force in one-day races, time trials, and stage races."
"He has quickly developed into an important support rider for our Tour de France team. We are confident that Dylan's best season is still ahead of him and look forward to working with him to help him achieve his very ambitious goals."
