France's Cofidis has announced that both Attilio Viviani and Eddy Finet have impressed team management enough to earn two-year contracts starting next season.
Both players joined the team as "apprentices" in early August, and 22-year-old Viviani repaid their trust by winning a sprint victory in the Belgian one-day race Char Sels on August 25.
As the younger brother of Italian sprint star Elia Viviani (who will move to Cofidis next season after two years with Detunink-Quickstep), much is expected of him in the future, but Viviani said his brother felt right at home. [Attilio Viviani said on the Cofidis website, "I felt right at home in the team. I'm trying to learn French and I'm happy that I already understand what is being said in the race briefings."
"I was given the opportunity to win early in the race, which gave me a lot of confidence. I'm going to give my all for the team in the coming weeks and next season." To go pro with my brother Elia is a dream come true for me. I will give my all for him and the team." [Meanwhile, 21-year-old Finet also made his team debut at La Polle Normande in mid-August and earned praise from the team for riding for his teammates at the Tour du Limousin at the end of the month.
Like many other successful young road riders, Finet comes from a cyclo-cross background and will represent France in the under-23 UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire before starting the 2020 season as an official member of Cofidis.
"I'm really proud to be a professional in such a well-known team like Cofidis. Everyone has welcomed me and I feel like I've integrated well."
"It's a big challenge, but I'm going to do my best to live up to the expectations and to live up to the trust.
Team manager Cedric Vasseur added that the Cofidis family is pleased to welcome the two new members.
"It is always a pleasure, but also an obligation, for young amateur riders to join the professional ranks. Attilio and Eddy have already made a positive impression on the entire team and we are excited to be able to count on them again next season."
